The Dominican Republic is a tropical paradise, popular with holiday-goers and investors alike. The beautiful country is home to some of the most varied environments in the entire Caribbean, and offers an ideal holiday spot for anyone who visits, regardless of what they’re looking for. As a place to live, it offers more than enough incentives to make it a worthwhile experience, aside from the people and the place itself there are numerous benefits – foreigners are afforded the same rights to purchase property as any DR national, there are a number of tax exemptions and benefits to encourage investment and all transactions are fully secured by Dominican banks, meaning purchases are safe. Whilst the country has seen a lot of the tourist industry moving in and pushing development and property prices up, there are still more than enough opportunities for a bargain, as long as a potential off plan investor is willing to put the extra effort in. Santo Domingo is a wonderful city and one that would be at the top of anyone’s “to visit” list, and owning a property there would surely be a dream come true. Prices in the capital are pretty high however, thanks in no small part to the massive tourist industry in and around the city. Those that can afford it should still certainly look to the city, and there are sure to be some bargains to be found, but the smart money would be better off put into developments away from the main city, where costs fall and standards stay just as high. The Dominican Republic is home to a solid economy – whilst there were some niggles a few years ago, a plan of action has been enacted and the state of the nation is very stable. Growth isn’t explosive by any means, but the economy is growing, and that’s the important thing. Property developments are becoming bigger and bigger business in the country and the market is sure to see explosive growth as tour operators offer easier and cheaper flights to the country. It’s beautiful, varied, the people are friendly and it isn’t prohibitively expensive – the Dominican Republic is certainly one to look at.
